Well, that stopped the errors but I can't see why. The log file isn't
using common format. Indeed, if I only have common in the config file,
the process exits with the same error as before -- too many corrupt
lines. Adding both common and combined works. ???

Whatever -- don't mess with success.

Thanks for the tip! My linear thinking would have taken awhile yet to
come up with that. :~)
