It works. Actually, I've been using Analog for months without any problem, 
and I just added the UNCOMPRESS command. I did not say that I'm under 
Win2k, and I use the Windows port of GNU gzip.

Now, actually, I solved the problem by using bzip2 instead of gzip (the 
unxutils port). Bzip offers better compression, though it's slower. But I 
can't figure out why it won't work with gzip.
