Is it possible using Apache 2 on Windows to find out who is downloading what? I would like to know who is downloading a specific file. I'm just not sure that I can. Any thoughts?
Depends what you mean by "who"...
If you mean "who" as in "which person", then no, short of asking people to register before downloading then you can't tell. And even then they can make up a name.
The web server -- any web server, not just Apache -- only knows the IP address of the computer making the request. And even then, in many cases the IP address you see is not the address of the end user's computer, but the address of the web proxy at their ISP.
And even if you *do* have the IP address of the end user's computer, that still doesn't necessarily match to a specific computer -- because the majority of ISPs use dynamic addressing, which means that any given user gets a random address from the ISP's pool of addresses.
