A 'search targets' report would help with this, and would be a good thing in its own right, detailing search engine hits.

Another Enhancement request:
the "logfile blah-%Y-%M.log.gz" command just picks up the file containing the 'to' date - how hard would it be to scroll round every year/month/week/day between from & to, reporting all of them - would be an improvement. The logic to start at to, and loop back to from (or vice versa) generating and using all the logfiles, would be straightforward enough - you'd search the string for %n, %h, %D|%w, %m|%M, %y|%Y, and set your step size accordingly.

In some environments, logs get rotated every three or six hours. Would you suggest that if the LOGFILE command has a %h in it, it should try every hour in every day? Does it really need to support minutes?

If it's 3 to 6 hours, %h won't work.
Personally I can't envisage logs every hour or every minute, and analysing huge logs would take a while, but if you ask for a report on 12 months (or 12 days), and have defined your logfiles (with %M or %d) then it doesn't seem a very useful or attractive feature of analog to just use the last month's (or day's) data.

Unless someone's gone mad and stored their logs in 1 minute files, the overhead and complexity of stepping through the logs is trivial compared with the data processing, so why not do it right ?

As it is at present, I've got "logfile blah%Y-%M", which restricts me to reporting on single months. If I want to report on a single year, I could change it to blah%Y-*. If I want the last 6 months say (Nov-Apr), I'd either have to specify the logfiles explicitly (without %Y or %M), or just use blah*, and have analog chew its way through several years' old logs, discarding most of it.

Yes, minutes do seem like overkill, but I'd include them for completeness - that won't hurt anyone who doesn't use them.
