I'm trying to make some sense of our intranet reports.

We've various anomalies in the remote hosts.
The logfile is (mostly) already dnslookup'ed.

We've got a couple of sources which don't give a proper domain - just "freda" or something - I'd like to translate these to freda_here.co.uk

We've got a remote site, which uses dynamic ips in a particular subrange - I'd like to identify them all as remote_here.co.uk

We've got some vpn users, again with dynamic ips in a different subrange - again I'd like to identify them all as vpn_here.co.uk

Then I've got a lot of machines which are just local (name.here.co.uk), which I don't want in the org report, just the host report.

I've used the DNSfile to fix the various dynamic ips - that works fine.

I can't get host "freda" to appear in the org report.
If I use "HOSTALIAS freda freda_here.co.uk", what turns up is "co.uk"

Am I doing something wrong ?
Is there a right way to do it, or have I found a bug ?

Thanks,
Chris
