You don't "subscribe" to the newsgroup, as such. The newsgroup is just a
"read only" mirror of the list, so you can read it without joining the list
(though you must be subscribed to the list to post a message, whether you
post through the newsgroup or directly to the list).

If you don't want to receive the list as e-mail, you can unsubscribe, but
you won't be able to post any questions.
