To refresh, we run two websites for a client and we run a stats report
every month to show the combined stats for the two sites using Analog
5.1
combined.cfg
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------
# to combine the stats for ALL PAGES of two sites, each on different
#servers.
LOGFORMAT COMMON
LOGFORMAT COMBINED
LOGFILE /usr/local/etc/httpd/logs/access_log.yyyymmdd
# including all daily log files to last day of month
LOGFILE /usr/local/etc/httpd/logs/access_log-otherdomain.yyyymm
# minimum 1 request before inclusion in output
REQFLOOR 1r
# don't report "possible log file overlap"
WARNINGS -L
OUTFILE /usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/stats/combinedyyyymm.html
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------
We also run a stats report each month showing the combined stats for the
HOMEPAGES ONLY of each site.
This report shows a total successful requests for pages and the request
report shows 'Listing files with at least 20 requests' for SITE1 only
combhomeonly.cfg

OKAY...
The following visitor figures are extracted from the stats since 200501
after the above config files have been processed.
SITE1 and SITE2 figures are for the homepages only taken from the
output file:- htdocs/stats/combinedyyyymm.html
The COMBINED visitor figure is again for the homepages only taken from
the output file:- htdocs/stats/combhomeonlyyyyymm.html
Although the reports are run at the same time the figures for Site2 on
the two reports never tally but they have always been within 95% - 97%.
I noticed yesterday that Site2 log files are created 6 hours earlier but
I cannot see that making much of a difference... 6 hours out of 30 days
does not equate to up to 5% difference... anyway not really wanting to
concentrate on that.
SITE1 figures always tallied in the two reports until the 200505 reports
were run.
DATE SITE1 SITE2 COMBINED % Diff.
200501 1854 762 2533 (1854) 96.38
200502 1648 897 2444 (1648) 96.03
200503 1366 835 2096 (1366) 95.23
200504 1481 1128 2535 (1481) 97.16
This is where it becomes even more convoluted... sorry.
outfile stats/combhomeonlyyyyymm.html:- reports run for 200505 to 200507
still shows a total successful requests for pages but the request report
is empty.
outfile stats/combinedyyyymm.html:- reports run for 200505 to 200507
seem to be reporting normally.
HOWEVER!
If I take as red the SITE1 figures and add the SITE2 figures there is
now a much bigger difference to the COMBINED figures... let me
demonstrate:
DATE SITE1 SITE2 COMBINED % Diff.
200505 1651 1109 2508 90.87
200506 1933 1057 2705 90.47
200507 1545 1091 2343 88.88
Somewhere, something is just not right and I'm nearly bald!
Please believe me Mr Turner... we have not changed our processes at all
that would cause a change since May2005 to date. Analog has been used on
these servers for seven to eight years now... with no previous problem.
