Title: Semi-newbie Question: Multiple Servers
Dan,

You are on the right track.

You need to run analog once for each report. You specify on the command line the name of the analog config file to use for that run. Each config file should specify the appropriate combination of logfile and output file.

Others will fill in the command details if needed.

Subject: [analog-help] Semi-newbie Question: Multiple Servers

All,

I've been through about 2 years of list archives, and I've RTFM to the best of my ability, so I'm hoping the question doesn't irritate the old hands on the list.  Please bear in mind I'm a historian by training and a tech guy by happenstance - I don't speak as much tech as some others.

Anyway, I've now been given responsibilities for 3 additional servers on top of the one I already use.  What I'd like to know is whether or not I need a separate install of Analog to run the stats on all three of them or if I should simply create additional *.cfg files for each server.

I do NOT want a single report for all three servers; I want individual reports for each.  These are running on our intranet, and I access them all locally.  The .cfg file I use on the one server already underway has LOGFILE g:\...etc. as the path to the server.

So am I correct that in order to get the separate reports for each server, I will only need to create new *.cfg files with the new path to the new servers?  Will I then have to go back into the original analog.cfg and manually redirect to each new *.cfg file for each server I want reports from?  Or do I need to rename each *.cfg as analog.cfg each time I want to run the program for that particular server?  Is there any way to automate the process so a single run of Analog will create four separate reports from four separate servers?

For the record, my current install is a Win2000 server running IIS 6.0; the three new ones are one Win 2003 server w/IIS 6.0 and two Windows Media streaming servers. (The list archives seems to have answered my questions about running Analog on reading streaming logs - thanks for the unexpected help)

My thanks in advance for any answers, and apologies it these are stupid questions.

Dan
