I’ve taken the A and B levels of the Classical Hebrew course. Classical Hebrew
is the Hebrew of the Bible. While they discuss protoHebrew and the evolution of
vowels, it is to motivate an understanding of the Nikkud (vowel pointing). The
goal of the courses is to be able to get you to a point where you can read the
Hebrew texts without the aid of a dictionary or lexicon. At the end of the A
level you’ll have a reasonable grasp of the basic grammar – enough to muddle
your way thru the text with a good lexicon/dictionary at hand. By the end of
the B level, you should be able to read, albeit haltingly, most of the text
without external aid. However, I’ve been at this for 5 years now and taken
other courses following the two ClassicalHebrew courses mentioned above and I
never, ever approach serious exegesis of the text without a number of resources
at hand.

They also offer modern Hebrew, but I have no idea what that course entails.

The course is, to my mind, quite expensive ($880 dollars American as I recall).
Nevertheless, I found it very worthwhile and, if you’re really serious about
studying the language of the Bible, its evolution, grammar, semantics, and
meaning this is a great place to start.

Hope this helps,

Michael
