My wife and I had a chance to visit the Decalogue Stone at Los Lunas, New
Mexico
yesterday. If you don't know much about this ancient Hebrew artifact, you can
review these links:

Arguments against the stone's authenticity question the fact that this is not
the complete Decalogue, but Archaeologist Cyrus Gordon counters this with his
proposition that the Los Lunas Decalogue is in fact an ancient mezuzah. One
thing that I noticed as I examined the stone, that seems to confirm this idea
that the stone is in fact a kind of mezuzah, is the direction of the cleavage
cracks in the stone compared to the predominant cleavage you can notice in the
host rock. If you rotate the rock to line up with the cleavage in the host rock
behind the Los Lunas Decalogue Stone, the writing on the Decalogue Stone
becomes
perfectly horizontal, and raises the stone about 6 feet into the air - possibly
higher (see picture). You can almost imagine people walking under it as they
traveled from just below in the river area to the settlement above.

This area where the rock is located is right beside a tributary to the Rio
Grand
river and one of the ancient pictographs above the stone includes the name of
the tribe Dan. So it seems possible that the tribe of Dan may have in fact been
exploring America (possibly with their Phoenician partners), navigated up the
Rio Grand, built a settlement here in the Los Lunas area, and placed this stone
as a mezuzah to the entrance to their settlement. The way rivers meander back
and fourth within a river valley, I could almost picture the river flowing
right
past their doorstep at that time.

If anyone has any thoughts, let me know.
 Great Shalom
Bruce Paul
