Well, it's not BASIC or anything, but it's easier than C and C++ since it manages all the memory stuff on its own. It's probably harder than PHP, Ruby, and other interpreted languages depending on where you're coming from. Personally, I think Ruby is very hard to read, but some people say that of Java too. I think compiled languages are harder because they require more persistence due to the overhead of getting the actual program to compile.
