Have you let it run for a while before maybe killing the emulator instance? Mine takes maybe about 15 to 20 seconds to boot up and then it runs apps. BTW, once the emulator is up, you don't have to kill it and then rerun your next instance of your program, thereby saving that boot time. Check your LogCat and Console output also (which you can do via Eclipse) to see if there are any messages there indicating what's wrong.
