Thanks for your reply Squalus. Actually I am working on the OS... I have things working now, the problem was I needed to UNinstall ADT 0.8 that comes with the SDK BEFORE I INstall ADT 0.9 that gets built with the latest source. They were conflicting.
I then run the newly built emulator from outside Eclipse and when i run my app from inside Eclipse it happily connects to the running instance of the emulator.
