It works for me now !!

The proxy set up works if we set the proxy in Home-> Application menu -
> settings -> Wireless Controls  -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point
Names.

Select any existing access point name and set the ip of your proxy and
port number.

(For eg. if the proxy is abc.def.com:1080 ,  set its IP address of
abc.def.com and port as 1080  in Access point name )

After that it works fine.

( I am even able to save an additional "home" profile in 1.5 (without
proxy/port info)....so when at home, I just use the "home" profile and
I can browse on Android )
