Hi folks. Quick: Is there an easy way to connect an Android phone (G1) to a network via ethernet?
Long: I'm new to Android development. So far the platform has many of the things we need for our target application with one major exception, wired-network. I've seen some posts here and there on the subject but nothing conclusive. Right now the hardware out there G1 doesn't seem to have this capability. USB host discussions is the closest I've seen. I've also seen many discussions that circle around tethering. My situation is similar to others out there. I have a device I need to connect to and an Android device would be perfect for this. This device is closed and only has an ethernet port as IO. I can try to do some magic and insert an AP in the middle but this is really really inconvenient. Does anybody have any suggestions (maybe hardware suggestions)? I'm also exploring the possibility of using netbooks running Android.
