Hi I would suggest using the Hessian protocol, if you have the choice. it is a very light-weight binary web service protocol, optimized for mobile clients - see http://hessian.caucho.com/. I am currently testing an Android port of Coucho's open-source Java library - going to put it on google code when it's done.
