Hi All,

I am working with a borrowed phone from google and they said it was a "dev phone".  The back just says with Google.  When I go to setting->about phone I see:

Model Number:  Android Dev Phone 1
Firmware version 1.5

Kernel Version:  2.6.27-00399-gc7f8bce
Build number:  CRC56

adb root gives:

adb root
adbd cannot run as root in production builds

I am confused by this.  I was told I would automatically have root access because this was a dev phone.  Anyway, what can I try/do to get root access?  I also want to build my own custom builds, does this mean I can't?

Anyway, thanks for the help!
