I found Mark Murphy's warescription at http://commonsware.com
to be very useful. You get three books in pdf ( or kindle i think) that are updated regularly - which is useful as Android is still evolving. Lots of code samples. Mark is a regular contributor in these forums and will answer all of your questions on his own group providing that you keep to the groups topic ie. content in the books.
