Holding the Menu button does not work on the Hero, either, which is a phone that doesn't even have a hard keyboard!
After I published an app, I found out that Hero users couldn't input any information into my EditText fields. (As a workaround I added a button that allowed them to unhide/hide the soft keyboard. But it's just a workaround; Hero users tell me that they are accustomed to apps automatically showing the keyboard for them.) I haven't gotten around to writing the logic to determine whether or not to automatically unhide the keyboard, and I'm not necessarily looking forward to it.
