Hi, Im VERY new to Android, and I haven't gotten all the API's fully grasped yet, but one thing puzzles me a bit:
There is a "gestures" API (a new API as I can tell), but its only for screen gestures. Is there an API to record and recognize "real" gestures? By real I mean device movement gestures (using an accelerometer). Screen gestures are nice, quite nice actually, but I would really like to be able to allow users to customize interaction (by moving the device itself). If there is a third party library, that would be awesome too. :D That was the main question, now for something that actually shocked me a bit (and then again, maybe not). There is a Maps plug-in available (or rather its a Google API plugin). Now Ive been developing for Symbian (C++) and J2ME/MIDP for a number of years, and about a year ago I wanted to use maps. However, the license agreement on Google Maps (and might I add, on Bing (sigh) Maps)) prohibit usage of the service in a non-web related context. My question is concerning the license agreement. Is there a special license for the Google API plugin? Or has Google removed the restriction all together (redudant question, since the reason for the restriction is quite obvious). However, I assume the restriction is removed from the plugin version; if not, my guess is a lot of developers out there are already breaking the license terms.
