This causes the same error for me. It makes using adb inside eclipse impossible - you just get null pointer exceptions all over the place. My devices is a T-Mobile Pulse by the way. I filed a bug here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=5469 I'm pretty sure no-one at Google actually reads that bug database though.
