Just an outside chance, if you have any trouble... I have no experience with MapView.
This may be really dumb, but.. You may be able to put the MapView in a RelativeLayout , layout the MapView first in the Relative Layout and have it FillParent for height and width. Then put the Button next in your xml, in the same relative layout, to draw your button on top. Your layout options may be a bit limited but you might be able to align it to an edge or centre it somewhere and pad it a bit to get it away from the edge. I'd imagine you would want to be careful not to obscure the Google logo and zoom controls..
