The really interesting apps are those that combine two or more sensors. How about using the accelerometer along with GPS to measure how many calories someone burns jogging or walking? The GPS can give you distance and the acceleration values can be filtered to detect gait or number of steps. If they enter their weight, you know number of steps, distance traveled, and weight moved, which should correlate very closely to energy (calories) consumed.
