Is anyone other than me in need of just a little more time on their Android Developer Challenge submission? I have barely been sleeping for stretches of days at a time to try and get my submission implemented and working, and I need more time before the deadline, otherwise I may not be able to submit anything working (the last pieces have to come together before the whole thing works, fingers crossed).
Justification for the request: ** Huge amounts of the API are not well documented, and half the time the Javadoc doesn't even work in Eclipse, it is not stored in a completely compatible format (bug: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=35 ). ** Also, I keep hitting random bugs in the tools (Eclipse plugin and even the Dalvik VM), as I'm thrashing them pretty hard, and these bugs are slowing down development. ** If an application isn't quite complete, it may be unusable and therefore not worth submitting, meaning a small amount of time can make the difference between a good submission and months of wasted time if you simply can't submit in the current form. ** Giving more time during the period where people are uber-motivated (i.e. before the deadline) will only result in a larger number of high- quality applications. ** Giving more time doesn't hurt anyone, everybody can add more spit&polish to their apps regardless of whether they're "finished" or not... To other Developer Chalenger entrants: If you are struggling to get the submission done in time, and if a little extra time will make or break your submission, please post a short reply in the following format, designating the bare minimum estimated extra time you would need. I can only hope that Google will see this post and consider one more slight change of date, but at the very least this can be considered a poll that will hopefully give an indication of where everybody is at. <+> 1 week You do not need to reply if you have finished your submission or if you disagree with requesting an extension, please start another thread for that if you want. I post this message at the risk of receiving the sort of response that came last time the issue of deadline extension came up ("But I've worked so hard on getting this done by the deadline!"). Extra time helps everybody involved. Google: I know there are numerous timing constraints you have to juggle with respect to how the next 6 months or so is going to unfold, so I know this date can't be pushed off indefinitely... but I hope you will please see if there is any more give in the schedule! I can only imagine there has been schedule creep with all internal aspects of Android and the OHA too...
