The carriers should charge a monthly flat fee and open up the networks for voice and data. They can have various plans depending on the usage. Keeping a closed network and monopolizing it for SMS and charging users per SMS, MMS etc., tapping and tracking plus delivering junk ads is just opportunistic and would not last longer.
