Yes, Google needs to let the participants know their score. Since the judges have scored the 1788 applications it only makes sense to disclose this information to the participants.
Challenge II is near, and Google needs to have a bigger participation than Challenge I to really storm to mobile market. I support this request from 'a dreamer'.
