It depends on who's checking and for what. If the government checks it will take 2 yrs for Green card. Maybe indefinitely for H1B.
If you are a citizen, then it might be a little quicker etc., One thing for sure, its a complete pain in the butt to be an alien in any country. There's nothing like home, as Dorothy says.
