I have to come to the defense of Eco2Go. Or at least take the conversation a little deeper to understand everyone's complaints.
Maybe all the younger kids participating in the Challenge have yet to realize their impact on the globe, but I for one find Eco2Go a refreshing idea. Whether it is required as a mobile app is another question so let me address that next. I'm currently consulting full-time in the past year, I drove roughly 15,000 miles, fly internationally at twice, flew coast-to-coast at least 7 times a year plus a 5 flights around the West coast. However I buy organic, recycle, compost, & use compact fluorcent lights. If EcoToGo could also track how much I lightage I use, magazines I subscribe to, & such then it would be useful to know what my total contribution to the carbon footprint would be for the last year. That said, I could probably get the same info by making a rough estimate via some website calculator rather than starting up Eco2Go everytime I start my car... All that aside, Eco2Go is one of only a few apps I've seen that attempt to address a ecological & social issues so I must commend them on their effort. If they simply won because they looked beyond social gaming & SMS twittering then I'm glad at Google honored their commitment to creating a better planet for longer than just our lifetimes. Perhaps Eco2Go will inspire people to look beyond their mobile device as a toy to entertain them & start using it as a tool for improving the planet. If people are going to condemn Eco2Go, then please tell us about other eco-applications submitted to the Challenge that should have won instead.
