I know that a lot of people aren't happy with the results of the contest, or they way they were handled. We don't have to give up Android because of the industry gatekeepers (nothing new here) or because an industry expert didn't feel that our applications were innovative enough. We are going to have to handle even bigger hurdles when the big players move in and the content aggregators block entry of our applications into the market. Many of the top 50 winners are going to be in the same boat. I'd just like to remind people that we do have alternatives.
You can take matters into your own hands by joining http://slideme.org or participating in the mailing list: http://groups.google.com/group/slideme-users . As a dedicated block of developers, we can start to form a group powerful enough to have a voice, bypassing the numerous gatekeepers to the end user.
