Views don't have a frame; however, they have a background and padding that you can use to create a frame. Typically how you would do this is draw a 9-patch image of your frame, marking up along the edges where you want it to stretch and where the inner content area is, and set this as your background. Then the view will draw the image behind itself, and will get the padding from the drawable (based on the content area you marked along the edge) to place its content inside.
