Of course it is possible, although somewhat tricky ;) You have to scroll down with your trackball / d-pad to the dialer input so it will show a blinking cursor and then hold the trackball/ middle button down until the paste dialog shows ( Or use "menu"+v ). Unfortunately the most intuitive solution which is to press the finger on the input field does not.
