In some kind of order to start with, but later steps in any order: 1. Pick a language 2. read docs 3. find tutorials online 4. work through tutorials 5. code, code, code! 6. find books, online articles etc related to what you're interested in - read 7. try stuff out, find out what works, what doesn't 8. code more 9. ask questions 10. find tools that help you be productive with your chosen language
At some point depending on your background you may find benefit from reading up on some math theory (sets, algebra etc), and also find books on common algorithms (no point re-inventing what as already been solved).
