OK...maybe my question was posed improperly. It seems the .apk doesn't contain individual class files. Instead the .class files are first compressed into classes.dex which is then packaged into the .apk.
My .apk does have a classes.dex so supposedly my classes are in the .apk. That still doesn't explain why my .class files are not being found my the emulator...!
