Okay. So there's some mysterious magic about focusable in touch mode,
and when you say "outside of the framework," I take it that I should
interpret that to mean "by me." So be it. (Although it's a sad thing
that I apparently can't write an app where the user points at one of
my custom widgets and then types a letter to take an action, at least
not if I want to combine that with scrolling. Maybe someday these
mysteries will be revealed to us?)

But what about the bizarre scrolling behavior I described in my follow-
up? No focusable in touch mode, and yet under not-so-remarkable
conditions the ScrollView moves contrary to whichever arrow key is
pressed!
