Never mind, I think I've answered both of my questions.... You said that the program allowed you to use the On-Screen Keyboard in any application, which is true.... but the application needs to have builtin support for your SoftKey.apk application.... otherwise it doesn't work e.g. SoftKey doesn't work if you try and use it for the builtin Contacts application... or the web-browser.
Perhaps I should have made it clearer in my original question... when I said "Am I right in thinking that this needs to be compiled into the application to work?".... I really did mean "Does my application have to set specific options to use SoftKey?". Anyways... good work on the Keyboard, but I still think a global mechanism needs to be put in place... and this most likely needs to be put into the code for Android itself... and not a specific "Helper Application".
