Nathan, I belive that homegrown (eg. ACRA - http://code.google.com/p/acra/) is must untl Froyo and newer become majority. Correct me if I'm wrong but on older version of Android there is no way how to get info about errors.
BTW: I'm using ACRA in all my apps and it made my apps much better. Thanks to ACRA dev.
