@Anders and @Brad Gies, If you are frustrated with not having a lock timer, I'd suggest checking out Smart Lock. Its a good alternative while we wait for Google to make the lock screen situation better.
Smart Lock lets you use one app, and only one app at a time, without unlocking your phone. It dismissed the lock screen until your try to change apps and then it locks. Its also works really well as a Child Lock for your phone. It uses an API that will work for the foreseeable future as long as you aren't using an Exchange Server (or other server that uses a device admin).
