I have the same problem with IO when running in the debugger. Loading Tank Recon 3D using the eclipse debugger == 5-10mins.

Also any OpenGL app makes the emulator pretty much useless as it runs < 5fps. The BlackBerry emulator uses the PC hardware. While not a one to one match with the device it's still a better solution.
