Just thought I would post my solution, if anyone else wants to know. I had to add android:focusableInTouchMode="true" in order to get it to work. I also might have added android:duplicateParentState="true" to get it to work, but I'm not sure if that's necessary.
Now that I got it working, though, I would not recommend trying this. It will not work reliably, as your widget will have to be focused in order for it to scroll. As soon as the user clicks somewhere to make it lose focus, or uses the trackball, the text no longer scrolls. We decided on a different approach, and I would recommend anyone else thinking that they have to have scrolling text in a widget to do the same. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Developers" group.
