Amen! Moreover, there are important and undocumented differences between emulator and G1 with respect to camera based image processing. I think that currently every Android developer who is using the camera for input is heavily frustrated, while the Android Team has not given any hint of when the various camera related problems will be fixed. I've had to pull my camera app off the market because of too many problems with the G1 camera.
