Thanks for your reply.

I am running on HTC Desire, as long I have the auto screen on, it
won't adjust the brightness. Am I doing anything wrong with the above
code? Or do you have any sample that force adjusting the brightness?
sorry I am pretty new to android.

I am trying the SCREEN_BRIGHTNESS_MODE, but it won't compile. looks
like the builder can't find the string. Is it depreciated?
