I use the web interface, mostly because I hate getting buried in junk
email, and also because I like to handle all posts of one group at a
time.
It's not a very pretty or functional setup, but it works sort of OK if
you come back and visit once or twice a day.
But you're right --- if you're looking for a specific ("cold") thread
that isn't on the first two pages then it's very hard to find.
(You do know, of course, to click on "Show all posts" or whatever the
button is on the entry page so that you get a full page display vs the
little "slit" view of 5-6 topics.)
