following the advice of http://pk-fire.com/2009/06/27/android-the-install_failed_update_incompatible-error/ which references this forum, i modified my packages.xml file to remove traces of swype. however (if this matters), i did it by copying the file using root explorer from /data/system to /sdcard, modified it with notepad on my machine, saved it, and then copied over the original file.
however, upon doing that, the phone basically wouldn't boot -- i get a popup telling me that basically everything failed and is force closing. i performed a nandroid restore, so no worries there, but i'd like to get swype out of it so i can properly install my package (i inadvertently installed the wrong version to begin with). any thoughts?
