I am not aware that an Android phone will automatically connect to an
unconfigured access point. I do not recall there being a prompt during
the setup to configure an access point. However, it's not like I set
up phones every day. It has been a couple of months since I did the
last one, and I do not maintain meticulous notes on the process, let
alone have such steps memorized and available to my presently
jet-lagged brain. Also, one imagines the setup process may shift
between Android releases, and I have not set up a device that had
Android 2.2 on it from the outset.
