It occurs to me that this may be a consequence of the _kind_ of view I'm using. In this case, it's a TextView. I notice that the only onTouch event that the default TextView passes to my onTouch method is ACTION_DOWN. I'm guessing I need to set some flags elsewhere to get other events for this type of view.
