There was direct download link with barcode - but it crashed on attempt to install on 2.1 I got good recognition results with invariant moments, and they are easy to compute (and pretty straightforward), but interpretation if results and matching to actual characters requires additional heuristics (not obvious) And in any case, I favor pure java solution (looked into tessaract sources and they are not fun to work with)
