I vaguely remember it working on an older version of the platform. Other aspects of the "InputType" flags never worked correctly for me either (like making a TextView or EditText, forget which, single line - I had to use the deprecated single line flag to get that to work). Maybe it's buggy or maybe we're just doing it wrong.
