Thanks for your answer, I was going to go this way but then I read the wikipedia article about jpeg and I think I understood that sometimes the icc is coded in the pixels and sometimes it's not. Making it quite difficult to work out.
I'm thinking of using the capture ability of a webview and the facts that it knows how to load the image to try to get around.
