My desktop doesn't have wireless or any other network other than the one ethernet cable. I also run rrdtool on my pc so can confirm that the ethernet connection is constantly active and online. So although Varun's issue may have been triggered by the wireless swapping over, I think there is still a genuine underlying issue.
