Hello, my name is David and I am currently taking my first steps into becoming an Android Developer. I am still learning to code, and have purchased books and other guides to help with my endeavors. My first app idea is to create a web-based app for my local school district. As part of the districts website, we allow students (and their parents) to check their grades through a system called Parent Portal. This site has become very popular over the past few years, with both students and parent becoming more involved in schools and with teachers to help improve education and the learning experience for everyone. My hope is to create an app that would allow the user to simply log in and be able to view their grades. Similar to the Facebook or Twitter apps, this would make the process of checking grades much easier and more efficient, allowing for even more parent and student support. I have envisioned the app to be laid out something like this:
-Opening Screen: App opens with a simple Login screen where the user inputs their username and password. Upon approval they will be taken to the Grade View screen. -Grade View Screen: Simple chart showing class, teacher, and grade with the ability to click on the teacher to view their personal website, or click on the grade to view the specifics (assignments, tests, etc). The teacher websites can link to the regular web browser but I'd like the expanded grade page to show up in app. -Possible Extras: The Parent Portal also allows access to a school calendar of upcoming events, lunch schedules, attendance records, and other useful information. While not necessary in the first stage of this app, I would like to later include these after I can get the initial app up and running. All of the charts/information and links to grades are already available online, I would just need a way to import them into the app. Any suggestions or help on where to get started would be greatly appreciated, such as links to tutorials, helpful websites, and possibly even other source code that I can use as a reference when creating my app. My timeline for the initial app (just the ability to check grades) is set to be completed before the first week of May, which I feel should give me plenty of time. Though I am not directly affiliated with the school district (I am a student) I will have all the legal issues (such as use of logo and access to their website) worked out before I begin work on the project. Once again, any suggestions or tutorials to help be begin would be greatly appreciated, as would any further help or suggestions as I move forward with the project. I want to make sure this app will be functional and impressive, because I hope that one day every parent or student within the district can use this app on a daily basis. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Developers" group.
